About John

John graduated from University of Windsor’s Law School in 1996. Prior to that, he earned a B.A. from the University of Toronto and an M.A. from the University of Western Ontario.

Born and raised by Italian immigrants in Sudbury Ontario, John’s first job was in the “lapidary shop” at the Big Nickel Mine.

Following far too many years in University, John practiced labour-employment law on Bay Street as an associate at two major Canadian law firms.

In 2001, he moved up to Port Elgin, Ontario where he became Bruce Power’s in-house labour and employment counsel. He retired as Assistant General Counsel at the end of a memorable “you’re on mute” 2020.

In May 2021, Mr. Martelli was appointed to the Ontario Labour Relations Board as a part-time Vice Chair.

During the same year, John began his practice as a neutral mediator and arbitrator, where he hears private labour/employment matters. He is also a member of the Ontario Labour-Management Arbitrators’ Association.

John and his family reside in Toronto. If and when you are so unlucky, you may just have to endure him singing and playing guitar and harmonica on a local bar stage. He outright refuses to give up his dream of making it big one day.
